Can I get it?

First of all, this technology is similar to that of your mobile phone; where the signal can be obstructed by the landscape such as trees and buildings. In Northlew, we are quite lucky due to how high we are, whereby the main signal will look down on residents of the village and upto 3Km beyond, which means even if you live in a dip.. you should still be able to pick it up if you are in the village... it will also cover the farms and possibly other local villages that also have the same problem with connectivity but are outside the boundaries of Northlew.

As a guide, if you can see the village of northlew from where you live... you should be able to pick up a signal. While the main hardware will be line of sight to the exchange (LOS), the residential wireless will be near line of sight (NLOS); meaning as long as there isn't too many obstructions, you will be able to pick it up: this is obviously subject to survey of your property.

The layout is slightly different for those living in Belstone, as we will have a point of entry near the water works and due to the heavy tree coverage will use subscribers to jump the signal through the village and as such it will be important to know who wants it prior to installation as further upgrades could be expensive if the road map changes of those who want to connect.

There are a couple of other conditions which will have to be satisfied before the system can be installed.

First, this offer is open to all of us, even if you don't own your own home and rent it from either a private landlord or a housing association. However, you will need to provide proof that your landlord is happy with a dish being erected on the side of your home, this could either be through a tenancy agreement or a written letter or email from your landlord to show he is happy with the work to take place. Also, if you live in an upstairs flat, the ground floor occupant will need to agree to any wires or equipment being put on their part of the property.

Secondly, the law allows upto two dishes to be erected on your property but if you already have sky TV, and satellite broadband, one system will have to be removed to satisfy local planning regulations or you will need to apply for planning permission of another dish. (see below regarding loft installation and lithograph patterns)

Finally, if you live in a listed building, there may be rules attached to doing work on the exterior of your property, you may need consent before the work can be carried out: However, the company we are using have assured us that a lithograph of your paintwork/brickwork can be placed over the dish which will mean it blends in to the exterior of your property, we can also supply different colour cables which will compliment the colour of your property. There may be a possibility of placing the aerial in your loft.

Below is a map that shows where it is possible to get the service from, this in not final or rigid, if you live outside the area, you may still be able to pick up the service or there may be areas where the signal is obscured, we can offer advice such as poles etc. if needed.

Equally, if other homes, farms or villages want the service, we may be able to extend the range of our system to link up with your area, contact us and we will do all we can to get you connected.
